              For Kids

Each year in the United States an estimated 2,800 children age 14 or younger are injured and 850 killed in residential fires. Of these children, over 40 percent are under the age five, 70 percent are under the age of ten (U.S. Fire Administration). We at the Monona Fire Department hope to never again encounter a child casualty. To achieve this aim, we work to educate all youth about fire prevention and home safety. Our firefighters visit local schools to exhibit firefighter gear and equipment. We host station tours for local school and youth groups. We also have an annual open house during fire prevention week in October at which we display all of our apparatus and give fire truck rides on our antique truck. To supplement our efforts, we ask that parents speak with their children about fire safety and conduct regular exit drills at home. The following external links offer many fun and educational activities for kids and parents alike. We encourage you to learn and play together as families.
